Eleven Pieces
Eleven pieces for children’s orchestra is a collection of short compositions for various ensembles. Both advanced musicians and beginners can play in that orchestra. The works, which are simple in principle, are a wonderful textural study. Nasz dzień, Marsz and Walczyk are simple melodies with accompaniment. Synkopy and Bagatela are examples of team chordal play. Polyphonic patterns appear in Melodia (dialogue), Śpiewy (a whole series of canons), Programme II and Fuga (multi-layered). Two Ćwiczenia are simply rhythmic etudes. The arrangement of the pieces is significant: 5 + 1 + 5, five compositions for several voices (for two or three instruments), in the middle Programme II (the only piece with a reciting voice) and five more compositions with an extensive cast. In terms of sound material, these works are not homogeneous and use various ways of its organization: diatonic, free twelve-note tonality, interval structuralism. There is also great variation in the rhythm and metric layer. Most of the pieces require rhythmic skill and some performance maturity. However, the instrumental parts are written in such a way that less advanced musicians can also participate in the ensemble. This composition has never been performed in its entirety.
