Three Meditations
It would seem that the Three Meditations will lead the listener and the performer towards purification or fusion with the deity or other being, but this is not the case. This extensive and extremely dramatic work is rather a struggle with the “demons of the past” or indicates a desire to free oneself from the embarrassing muzzles. Movement I – Largo – develops on restless, punctuated motifs and ornamental figures, maintained in loud dynamics. Some calming is brought by the beginning of the second meditation, but also anxiety is created by vibratos, tremolandos, clusters and large dynamic undulations. The work ends with a Fugue preceded by a sonically saturated Prelude played con fuoco. It is not a fugue with a typical formal scheme. Thematic structures are often woven into the accompanying plans, creating what the composer called Fugue quasi una fantasia.
I. Largo
II. …Lento
III. Prelude and Fugue quasi una fantasta
Meditation III – Prelude and Fugue was an obligatory piece during the 2nd National Accordion Competition in Czechowice-Dziedzice in 2004.
